A fresh and smooth red wine from Pomerol

The estate

Château Petit-Village is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1780, this château has belonged to the Moulin family, the majority owner of Château Beauregard, since the beginning of 2020.

The vineyard

Château Petit-Village reigns over a historic 10.5-hectare vineyard, all in one piece. This triangle-shaped vineyard is located on a clay gravel terroir at the highest point of the oldest terrace in the appellation. The vines are 35 years old on average and lead to the production of fine Pomerol wines. 2020 marks the year of certification of the entire vineyard in Organic Agriculture.

The vintage

A mild, rainy winter preceded a spring marked by frost and then relatively mild weather, as well as heavy rainfall. Moderate sunshine at the beginning of summer gave way to a month of September with particularly mild conditions which were ideal for refining the ripening process.

Vinification and ageing

Rigorous intra-plot selection. Manual sorting on the plot and mechanical sorting with the destemmer. On the final sorting table, a manual sorting is carried out as well as a densimetric sorting in order to keep only the best quality grapes. The grapes are put in a cold room to cool them down (6°C). Vinification by plot in small temperature-controlled concrete vats. Cold pre-fermentation maceration before alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in new barrels for the best Merlot vats. The wine is aged for 16 months, partly in amphorae and partly in barrels (50% new) from 6 different coopers.
