Description

The structure and refinement of a Pomerol red wine

The estate

Château Petit-Village, a true gem of an estate, is located in the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1780, this château has belonged to the Moulin family, the majority owner of Château Beauregard, since the beginning of 2020.

The vineyard

Château Petit-Village watches over a historic 10.5 hectare vineyard, all in one piece. This triangle-shaped enclosure is located on a terroir of clayey gravel at the highest point of the oldest terrace in the appellation. The vines are 35 years old on average. 2020 marks the year of certification of the entire vineyard in Organic Agriculture.

The vintage

Winter and spring were marked by warm conditions combined with high rainfall. Bud burst was early. The hot, dry summer was punctuated by scorching episodes, followed by thunderstorms.

Vinification and ageing

Rigourous selection and successive sorting were carried out manually on the plot, mechanically with the destemmer and manually on the final sorting table. Following the harvest, the grapes passed through a cold room (6 ° C). The plot vinifications were carried out in small thermoregulated concrete vats. Cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation took place in new barrels for the best Merlot vats. Ageing lasted 16 months in barrels (50% new), with a part aged in amphorae.

The blend

The Château Petit-Village 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (32%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8%). The plot selection made for the development of this wine resulted in an atypical blend comprising the highest percentage of Cabernet in the history of the estate.

The tasting

The Château Petit-Village 2020 seduces with its pure and complex nose and a palate that harmoniously combines the density, power and refinement of the appellation's clay soils.
