Description
A gourmet and structured Rosé champagne by the Geoffroy Champagne house
The estate
Founded at the beginning of the 1950s, the Geoffroy Champagne House has been producing high quality vintages for 4 generations. A vineyard managed with the utmost care as well as a very precise plot-based vinification results in champagnes that exude the purest expression of the terroir and showcase the champagne's vibrant fruit.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Marne Valley in Champagne, the estate looks after a 14-hectare vineyard spread over an array of 35 plots.
Respecting the terroir and the authentic expression of each plot, the vineyard’s management favours the microbial activity in the soil and limits human intervention as much as possible.
The wine
This Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Brut by Geoffroy is made from vines that are on average 25 years old, planted on clay-silt soils with a strong in-depth presence of marl.
The dosage is 6 g/l and the base wine is from the 2016 vintage.
The vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted on a sorting table before undergoing a 40-hour cold maceration in open oak tanks. The fermentation is spontaneous. No malolactic fermentation.
This champagne is the result of a method used by a few Champagne houses, namely bleeding during the maceration of the Pinot Noir grapes. This technique gives a bright colour and intense red fruit aromas.
The blend
This Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Brut by Geoffroy is a 100% Pinot Noir.
