Description

The aromatic complexity of an exceptional white Burgundy wine

The producer

The history of the beautiful Vincent Girardin house began in 1980. Vincent Girardin was born into a family that have been winemakers since the 17th century. At the age of 19, he began producing wine with the two hectares of vines that he had inherited from his parents. A winemaker at heart and a passionate one at that, Vincent Girardin quickly made a name for himself among the great names of the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1992, the Vincent Girardin house has since become one of the finest references among great Burgundy wines. Since 2000, the talented Eric Germain has been following in Vincent Girardin's footsteps, passionately revealing the exceptional Premiers Crus and Grands Crus terroirs that surround Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.

The vineyard

Vincent Girardin's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 is made from a plot located in the villages of Aloxe Corton, Pernand Vergelesses and Ladoix Serrigny. The 45 year old vines are planted on marl soil, rich in clay and limestone. Rooted in steep slopes, the vineyard is located between 280 and 330 metres above sea level and benefits from a south, south-west, south-east and north-west sun exposure.

The vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are harvested and then sorted. They are gently pressed in order to favour the extraction of the juice. The musts are lightly settled before being placed in 228 litre oak barrels (around 15% to 20% new wood). Fermentation is carried out in barrels with natural yeast.

The wine is aged on its fine lees for 18 months in oak barrels. No stirring of the lees is carried out during the ageing period. The wines are blended in tanks one month before bottling, then fined and lightly filtered, in line with the lunar calendar.

Through his wines, Vincent Girardin seeks to express the perfectly ripe grapes.

The blend

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 by Vincent Girardin is a 100% Chardonnay.

The tasting

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 by Vincent Girardin will seduce lovers of fine white Burgundy wines with its complex expression. Very mineral notes of flint as well as herbaceous notes harmoniously blend with aromas of gunflint and lemon peel.

Food and wine pairing

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 by Vincent Girardin will perfectly complement chicken dishes, sweetbreads, truffled foie gras, comté cheese or an old cantal. It is also perfect with seafood dishes such as fish or shellfish.
