With a rich heritage, Quinta do Castelinho's past is closely linked to the demarcation of the Port appellation, when boundaries were marked by towering granite blocks. This iconic property, located in the spectacular Douro Valley in the Duriense region of northwest Portugal, was already mentioned on the map drawn by Baron Forrester in 1848.
In 1903, the agronomist and diplomat Jaime Batalha Reis wrote in the newspaper "O Comércio do Porto" that the wines from Quinta do Castelinho were easily recognisable because of their particular aromatic notes, which signalled their qualitative excellence.
Bought in 1969 by Manuel Anónio Saraiva, Quinta do Castelinho became known in the 1990s as Castelinho Vinhos, one of the first companies to export its Port wines directly from the Douro region without passing through the port of Vila Nova de Gaia in Oporto.
Mastering the entire process of making their Port wines, selecting the best grapes, Quinta do Castelinho has created a range of exceptional Ports.
Produced exclusively in the best years with the finest grapes in very limited quantities, Quinta do Castelinho Vintage Port is considered a jewel in the crown of Port. Legendary vintages such as 1990, 1991, 1994, 1997 and 1999 have set the seal of approval on Quinta do Castelinho.
