Founded in 1815 by João dos Santos Fonseca, Fonseca is one of those great Port Houses that have built their identity on a unique style and consistent quality year after year.
While the practice of declaring Vintage Ports produced only in the best years became increasingly common during the 19th century, it was in 1840 that Fonseca unveiled its first Vintage Port. 1844, 1927, 1977, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2007: A succession of exceptional vintages have set the seal on Fonseca's reputation.
Because great wines come from great grapes, Maison Fonseca has made it a point of honour to bring together the best vineyards in order to guarantee the excellence of the raw material. Maison Fonseca heads three Quintas (Quinta Do Panascal, Quinta Santo Antonio, Quinta Cruzeiro) located on the finest terroirs of the Douro Valley in the Duriense region of north-west Portugal. Thanks to the particularities of their unique terroir, each of the Fonseca Quintas contributes to the definition and style of Fonseca Port. A pioneer in the region, Fonseca has made a name for itself through its commitment to sustainable, environmentally-friendly viticulture.
While the House's identity can be discovered through an exceptional range, each bottle of Port bears the stamp that is the signature Fonseca style.
Opulent, extremely rich in aroma, powerful and structured, Fonseca Ports have a formidable capacity to blossom splendidly over the years, gaining in complexity and finesse. These exceptional Ports are among the greatest in the world.
