Description
A well-balanced and fresh Tuscan wine
The estate
After discovering the idyllic scenery of the medieval village of Il Borro, not far from Florence, during a hunting trip, Ferruccio Ferragamo acquired the Il Borro estate in 1993, with the ambition of producing excellent wines from an 85-hectare vineyard that would be recognised as some of the finest Tuscan wines.
The wine
This 2019 Pian di Nova by Il Borro is a Tuscan wine that stems from vineyards located at an altitude of 200 metres and resting on predominantly silty and sandy soils.
The vintage
A relatively dry winter preceded a cool, wet spring. June was very hot, followed by a summer punctuated by stormy spells. Despite these unstable weather conditions, the grapes harvested were showcased a high quality.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested, destemmed and sorted by hand, the grapes are then cooled overnight before pressing and vatting by gravity flow. Vinification by grape variety. Pre-fermentation maceration for 2 days before alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for around 10 days. Post-fermentation maceration for 20 days. Racking and ageing in vats for 6 months before the wines are racked into barrels for 12 months. The batches are then decanted into steel vats, blended and filtered. The bottled wine is left to rest for 6 months before being released on the market.
The blend
Syrah (75%)
Sangiovese (25%).
