Description

An aromatic and powerful Corton red wine

The estate

Founded in 1925 by Pierre Faiveley in the village of Nuits, Domaine Faiveley is one of the finest names in the Côte de Nuits. Today run by Erwan & Eve Faiveley, seventh generation of the family, the Faiveley estate offers wine-lovers a superb range that reflect all Burgundy’s mosaic of terroirs with precision.

The vineyard

Although Domaine Faiveley was historically established in the Côtes de Nuits at Nuits-Saint-Georges, the company has gradually extended its vineyards to the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Domaine Faiveley owns 12 Grands Crus and 25 Premiers Crus in Burgundy and looks after an exceptional heritage of vines.

The wine

This "Clos des Cortons Faiveley" Grand Cru from Domaine Faiveley is a Corton wine produced from a 2.76 plot facing east on with ferruginous and marl soil.

Winemaking and ageing

After being harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted and partly destemmed (the proportion varies according to each vintage). A daily punching of the cap is carried out to extract colour and tannins from the grape skins. After 19 days of vatting, the alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is drained by gravity, while a slow and gentle pressing of the marc produces a press wine of great purity. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% one-wine barrels) for 18 months in the estate's 19th century vaulted cellars.
