Description
A great Pomerol wine from the Barons de Rothschild Lafite estates
The estate
Established gradually by the Léglise family from Libourne around the middle of the 18th century, Château L’Évangile quickly earned the reputation of a "First Growth of Haut-Pomerol". After having been owned by the Ducasse family, it was in 1990 that the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite bought the estate and invested into making the estate one of the appellation’s best. From the vineyard to the cellar, Château L’Évangile has undergone major restructuring and modernisations that have made the property shine bright among the finest references in the Pomerol appellation.
The vineyard
Reigning over a 22-hectare vineyard, Château L’Évangile enjoys a privileged location, bordered by Pétrus to the north and Château Cheval Blanc to the south. The vineyard is planted in sandy clay soil with pure gravel, resting upon a subsoil made of the appellation’s famous iron ore (crasse de fer).
The vintage
Although the Château L’Évangile vineyard sometimes lacked water, the teams at the château harvested perfectly ripe grapes between 2 and 21 September. The fruit offered a very nice shine and the richness in the aromas of the young Merlots was very noticeable. The Cabernet Francs were also cared for by the estate’s teams, something which can be felt in their simultaneously fresh and very aromatic profile.
Blend
Merlot (88%) and Cabernet Franc (12%).
