Description
The richness and elegance of a Pomerol red wine
The estate
Located in the Pomerol appellation, Château Beauregard traces its origins back to the 12th century and to the Knights Hospitallers, to whom the famous Templar Cross is attributed, which has become the emblem of the estate. At the time, the Knights Hospitallers cultivated the land of the Manor House they owned.
It was not until the 18th century that the first vineyards were planted at Château Beauregard, but successive owners have developed its quality over the years to the point where it is now recognised as one of Pomerol's finest wines.
The estate is writing a new page in its history following its acquisition in 2014 by the Moulin and Cathiard families with the ambition, through major renovation work on the winemaking infrastructure, to elevate to the top the wines of this Bordeaux Right Bank benchmark.
The vineyard
Château Beauregard is a Pomerol wine produced from 17.5 hectares of certified organic vines. With an average age of 30 years, the vines are planted on a clay-gravel terroir on the south-eastern edge of the famous Pomerol plateau.
The vintage
Winter was relatively dry, despite a wet December. January saw some severe frosts. There was also a period of frost at the beginning of April, giving way to a spring with summer-like conditions. This dry, sunny spring preceded a scorching summer with above-seasonal temperatures.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are sorted three times by hand, before destemming, followed by optical sorting. The grapes are placed in cold rooms to lower the temperature to 6°C. Vinification by plot, with gravity-fed vatting, in 22 temperature-controlled concrete truncated-cone vats. Alcoholic fermentation between 26 and 28°C. Vinified entirely in new 225-litre barrels. Vatting period of 3 to 4 weeks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in new barrels for the best vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels (45% of which are new) from 5 coopers, and 15% in 500-litre barrels.
Blend
Château Beauregard 2022 is a blend of Merlot (67%), Cabernet Franc (27%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%).
