Description
A mineral Coteaux Champenois white wine with a lovely complexity
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer is a Champagne House that has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer Champagne House is still owned by the same family. Today, headed by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the family, Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne wines across the world through its vintages that are made like works of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, the Maison Louis Roederer derives its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, made up entirely of Grand Crus and Premier Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. A veritable mosaic of terroirs, the Maison Louis Roederer's vineyards are divided into 410 plots that reflect the full diversity of the Champagne region's soils.
The wine
Produced in AOC Coteaux Champenois, Louis Roederer's Hommage à Camille "Volibarts" celebrates the spirit of innovation and freedom of Camille Olry-Roederer, Frédéric Rouzaud's great-grandmother. This audacious woman is one of the most important figures in the history of the House.
This wine comes from a plot of nearly 546 ares of old Chardonnay vines, planted in 1997 in Mesnil-Sur-Oger, in a place called Volibarts. It reveals a different expression of the Champagne terroir and reveals another facet of the unique winemaking skill of the family house.
The vintage
The winter was mild and wet. Despite the heatwaves of the summer, the harvested grapes were of a great quality, producing ripe and perfectly balanced wines.
Winemaking and ageing
Skin maceration of 1/3 of the harvest. Spontaneous fermentation was followed by 16 months' ageing on the lees in stoneware vats (44%), new barrels (28%) and stainless steel tanks (28%).
Blend
Chardonnay (100%).
