Description
A white wine from the Coteaux Champenois that is seductively powerful and precise
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After over 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still owned by the same family. Today, headed by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the family’s seventh generation, Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne wines throughout the world, due to its vintages that are crafted like true works of art.
The vineyard
Comprising nearly 241 hectares of vines, the Louis Roederer House’s strength comes from its extraordinary vineyard, made up entirely of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. An impressive patchwork of terroirs, the Louis Roederer vineyard is divided into 410 plots that reflect the diversity of the Champagne region’s soils.
The wine
Produced in the Coteaux Champenois AOC, Louis Roederer's Hommage à Camille "Charmont" cuvée celebrates the innovative and free sprited Camille Olry-Roederer, Frédéric Rouzaud's great-grandmother. This bold woman is one of the most important figures in the House’s history.
This cuvée stems from an almost 55-are plot of old Chardonnay vines, planted in 1997 in Mesnil-Sur-Oger, and located in a place called Volibarts. It reveals a different expression of the Champagne terroir and reveals another facet of the family’s unique winemaking know-how.
The vintage
The year 2019 is marked by a noticeable climatic instability throughout the vegetative cycle. Despite these conditions, this vintage reveals concentrated, rich wines that boast a beautiful quality.
Vinification and ageing
A skin maceration of 1/3 of the grapes is followed by a vertical pressing. Spontaneous fermentation precedes a 14-month ageing period on lees in stone vats (77%) and new barrels (23%).
The blend
Chardonnay (100%).
Louis Roederer’s Hommage à Camille "Volibarts" 2019: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Nose
Fresh and very pure, the nose precisely blends fragrances of a harvest (wheat, dry fruit, lightly toasted notes), melon and pear with subtle honeyed floral notes. When aerated, the bouquet gives off delicious spicy aromas.
Palate
Powerful, the palate is seduced by this wine’s structure and its freshness. Fine tannins combine with aromas of candied citrus fruits along with delicate chalky and iodine notes. The finish is persistent and reveals toasted notes, which confers a rich and persistent aromatic framework.
