Description

Charles Heidsieck unveils a seductively balanced and lively vintage champagne

The producer

An essential reference for great Champagne wines, the Charles Heidsieck House is preserving a prestigious heritage with two-thousand-year-old chalk pits. The pioneering Charles Heidsieck began to distinguish itself from the end of the 1980s through showcasing its multi-vintage Brut champagne’s exceptional capacity for aromatic evolution. In 1987, Charles Heidsieck was the first Champagne house to indicate its “cellaring” year to follow the evolution of the wine over time.

The vineyard

The Charles Heidsieck Champagne House owns a vineyard of around 60 hectares in Marne and Aube. This vineyard has received sustainable viticulture and High Environmental Value certifications. In addition to its own vineyard and through following the Champagne model, Charles Heidsieck supplements its vineyard with long-term supply contracts with rigorously selected winegrowers and cooperatives.

The wine

Through the 2022 edition of its "Collection Crayères", Charles Heidsieck is opening the doors to its Œnothèque for the 6th time. A tribute to the founder of this illustrious house, this 1982 Brut Collection Crayères is a Brut champagne that was cellared in 1983 and disgorged in 1989.

The vintage

Due to its mildness throughout the vegetative cycle and the high-quality and fruitful harvest, 1982 is recognised as an exceptional year in Champagne.

Millésimé Brut Collection Crayeres 1982: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour
This champagne showcases a beautiful golden hue, with subtle copper highlights. The effervescence is lively and delicate.

Nose
The concentrated and expressive nose opens with delicious mocha, toasted and pastry fragrances. With aeration, the nose becomes more complex, revealing fresh notes of candied citrus fruit, caramelised ginger and quince paste.

Palate
The powerful and smooth palate exudes delicious aromas of sweet spices (saffron, paprika). The palate is seductive with its persistence, elegance and concentration.

Food and wine pairing

Slow-cooked white meat dishes (leg of lamb) or fish (red tuna curry with coconut milk) will complement this vintage champagne.
