Description
A complex and balanced fine Argentinian Malbec by Zuccardi
The estate
Situated in Mendoza, the Zuccardi estate is renowned for producing some of the finest Argentinian wines. Sebastián Zuccardi embodies the third generation of winemakers on this family estate. The estate’s history began in 1963 when his grandfather planted the first hectares of vines in Maipú. Since January 2000, Sebastián Zuccardi has been at the head of a vineyard comprising over 200 hectares of vines. Rooted at the foot of the Andes Mountains, Zuccardi’s wines reflect the richness of the terroirs of the Uco Valley.
Born into a visionary and forward-looking family, Sebastián Zuccardi created a Research and Development department in 2008 dedicated to optimising the vineyard's practices. In 2016, he inaugurated a cellar with uniquely shaped vats and amphorae, the result of many years of research into how to make wine in the most natural way possible, while limiting human intervention, in order to preserve the characteristics of each vineyard and to enhance their expression during the winemaking process.
Recognised as one of the best winemakers in South America, Sebastián Zuccardi produces wines that are worshipped by connoisseurs and praised by critics.
Voted as the best vineyard in South America in 2019 and 2020, the Zuccardi family estate was named the world's best vineyard in 2020.
The vineyard
The grapes used to produce the Zuccardi family’s Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal Malbec 2017 come from a 0.78 hectare plot in Paraje Altamira, a wine-growing terroir in the Uco Valley. The soil is composed of stones and covered with a rich layer of calcium carbonate, fine sand and silt.
The vintage
The 2017 vintage is marked by an early harvest due to a particularly hot summer. Each parcel was harvested at optimum ripeness. Despite low yields, the vineyard is healthy and the grapes are very high quality.
The vinification and ageing
Following the manuel harvest, the wine is vatted using a gravity flow method. Fermentation in concrete tanks with wild yeasts, followed by ageing in concrete tanks.
The blend
Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal Malbec 2017 by the Zuccardi family is a 100% Malbec.
The tasting
This Argentinian wine will stay long on the mind with its balance as well as its intense fruity aromas.
