Founded by pioneers, adopted by the local population and shaped by the Andes, Terrazas de los Andes is an Argentinian estate with a recent but rich history. Three decades ago, Hervé Birnie-Scott, a French agronomist, decided to move to South America to raise Argentinian wines to the rank of world-renowned grands vins. The challenge was brilliantly met, and today Terrazas de los Andes has become an emblem of great Argentine wines.
Terrazas de los Andes is rooted in an exceptional terroir surrounded by the highest peaks in the Andes. Located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley in Argentina, the estate has found a place of choice in Mendoza. The terroir is typical of high altitude: low rainfall, rocky soil and warm, sunny days.
Because of this particular geology, the vines have to root deep into the soil to find nutrients and hydration. As a result, the grapes develop a lively, intense aromatic character. Alongside the heat of the day, cool nights slow down the ripening of the grapes and limit their acidity.
Each grape variety grown at Terrazas de los Andes has its own special place at a specific altitude and spreads harmoniously across terraced vineyards. No fewer than 10 plots of land grow Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, Torrontés, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc at altitudes of between 980 and 1800 metres. As a result, each wine produced by the estate embodies the purest expression of its terroir.
The prestigious Argentinian estate currently offers four wines, all of which help to create the Terrazas de los Andes style, each embodying a touch of the estate's signature. Where Altos del Plata fully expresses fruit and vibrant spontaneity, Reserva offers generosity and a coherent expression of each grape variety. The cuvée Grandiose expresses complexity and rarity through a complete varietal character. And finally, Colis brings unrivalled precision to the estate's style.
