Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 by Louis Jadot

Serving

For optimal tasting, serve between 12 and 14°C.

A lively and balanced great white wine from Burgundy

The property

The Louis Jadot House, established since 1859, is a true reference in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru "Clos des Ursules" in 1826. Owner of prestigious vineyard plots, the Louis Jadot House perpetuates a know-how passed down from generation to generation, offering enthusiasts the best of Burgundy.

Pierre-Henry Gagey, who has been at the head of the Louis Jadot House since 1992, handed over his position in September 2022 to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and the General Management to his son Thibault Gagey.

The vineyard

This Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru by Louis Jadot is made from vineyards located on the border of the communes of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet. Resting on soils composed of limestone marls and clay, this exceptional Burgundy terroir gives birth to a great Bâtard-Montrachet wine.

The vintage

The mild and dry winter delays the vine cycle. After a late bud break, the vine grows vigorously in May. Flowering is early with beautiful bunches. Some storms in July alleviate the lack of water, and veraison begins. August sees a heatwave followed by beneficial rains. The harvest begins in early September in high heat. The white wines show a beautiful acidity, the red wines are dense with ripe tannins. The vintage presents a good balance and promises a long aging, with wines with clear and pure aromas.

Vinification and aging

Harvested manually, the grapes undergo gentle pressing before fermentation in barrels (of which 1/3 are new) from the estate's cooperage. Aging for about 15 months on fine lees.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
