Description
The richness and smoothness of a Volnay 1er Cru red wine
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in the village of Nuits, Domaine Faiveley is one of the finest references in the Côte de Nuits. Currently managed by Erwan & Eve Faiveley, the 7th generation of the family, this illustrious house provides wine lovers with a superb range of wines that accurately reflect the mosaic of Burgundy terroirs.
The vineyard
Although the Faiveley estate was historically established in the Côtes de Nuits at Nuits-Saint-Georges, the house has gradually extended its vineyards to the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Domaine Faiveley owns 12 Grands Crus and 25 Premiers Crus in Burgundy and reigns over an exceptional heritage of vines.
The wine
The 2016 Joseph Faiveley "Santenots" wine by Domaine Faiveley is a Volnay 1er cru wine made from an east-facing parcel. The soil is composed of limestone and brown silt.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes undergo a short cold pre-fermentation maceration before vinification. Vatting time for 18 to 20 days. Aged for 16 to 18 months in vaulted cellars that date back to the 19th century. The proportion of new barrels varies depending on the vintage.
