The estate

Donatella Cinelli Colombini's estate, Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the southern part of the Chianti appellation. Owned by Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s family since the 16th century, the estate has shifted over the last three generations, with the land being passed down from mother to daughter. Since 1998, Donatella Cinelli Colombini has been tirelessly working towards bringing her ancestor’s estate back to its former glory. Thus, she relies on a team of women who provide their expertise and boundless know-how, making the estate the first Italian winery to be made up entirely of women.

The vineyard

This reference, among the finest Brunello di Montalcino wines, comes from a small vineyard called Ardita, planted in 2002 on the northern slopes of Montalcino.

The wine

If IOsonoDONATELLA Riserva bears the name of Donatella Cinelli Colombini, it is simply the embodiement of this passionate woman’s dream: to produce a perfectly harmonious wine. Only stemming from exceptional vintages, this wine is produced in very limited quantities. 2015 is the 4th edition, following the 2010, 2012 and 2013 vintages.

The label of this wine tells Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s personal story. In her youth, she studied medieval art and jewellery. The glass bottle is thus covered with glimmering stars, forming both a moon-like crescent shape and a full moon, the latter encircles a gold coat of arms.

The vintage

The year 2015 was marked by a winter and a spring whose heavy rainfall disrupted the flowering period and consequently impacted the size of the bunches and the future yields. While July was very hot, August was cooler.

The vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand with the utmost care and are rigorously sorted both in the vineyard and upon arrival at the estate. Vinification with selected yeasts in open truncated concrete tanks. Long maceration. Aged for two and a half years in 5 to 7-hectolitre French oak barrels, made in artisanal workshops. An additional 6 months of ageing in concrete tanks is carried out before bottling.

The tasting

Colour

This wine is a brilliant ruby red colour.

Nose

Intense and complex, the nose combines fruity fragrances (ripe red berries, exotic fruits) with notes of black pepper, liquorice, tobacco and also undergrowth.

Palate

Harmonious, this wine seduces the palate with its silky feel, its fine tannins, its structure and its beautiful persistence.

For an optimal tasting experience, we recommend decanting the wine one hour before serving at 18°C.
