The estate

The Casato Prime Donne estate in Montalcino is in the heart of Tuscany, in the southern part of the Chianti appellation. Owned by the family of Donatella Cinelli Colombini since the 16th century, the estate has undergone a turning point in the last three generations, with the land being passed down from mother to daughter. Since 1998, Donatella Cinelli Colombini has been working hard to restore the estate of her ancestors to its former glory. To do this, she relies on the expertise of a team of highly-skilled women, making the estate tje first exclusively women-run winery in Italy.

The vineyard

The grapes used in the winemaking for this major name among the great Tuscan wines come from a 2.5-hectare plot. Planted in 2001 at 225 metres of altitude, this south-facing vineyard on poor and clayey soil produces grapes of a small size which ripen slowly and regularly. This is due to the altitude of this part of the vineyard in Brunello. The vineyard has been run according to organic agricultural practices since 2018.

Casato Prime Donne Brunello di Montalcino by Donatella Cinelli Colombini Selection is a Brunello di Montalcino wine produced since 1993 with the aim of asserting women's taste in the making and selection of a wine in a predominantly male wine world. It is the first Brunello selected by an international female jury, which decides each year on the length of the ageing period, the types of barrels to be used and the final blend of the wine, produced only in the best years. A symbol of courage, ethical values and defying cliché, this top-of-the-range wine is increasingly popular with consumers and critics alike.
