Description
The balance and depth of a Burgundy red wine
The estate
Historically established since 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Faiveley family is at the head of one of the most beautiful estates in Burgundy. Since 2005, it has been Erwan's turn, joined by his sister Eve in 2014 - the seventh generation of the family - to pursue with passion and commitment the values of excellence specific to the estate by passing them on to future generations. By combining respect for tradition and modernity, Domaine Faiveley produces great Burgundy wines. The vines are cultivated using sustainable viticulture methods that aim to preserve the diversity of the surrounding flora and fauna. With a wide range of wines of great accuracy and precision, Domaine Faiveley is an essential reference in Burgundy.
The vineyard
The Domaine Faiveley vineyard covers more than 120 hectares of vines spread over the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. This exceptional winegrowing heritage includes superb Grand and Premier Cru plots embodying the quintessence of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The wine
The Nuits-Saint-Georges 2018 Premier Cru "Les Porêts Saint-Georges" from Domaine Faiveley comes from an east-facing vineyard of 7.35 hectares, planted on brown limestone and gravel soils. The vines were planted in 1957, 1958, 1986 and 2005.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration before vinification. During a vatting period of 18 to 20 days, the wines are kept cold. They are then aged in oak barrels in the vaulted cellars of the estate. The ageing process lasts between 14 and 16 months. The proportion of new barrels, which can vary according to the vintage, represents on average two thirds of the cuvée. These barrels are characterised by their fine grain.
