Description

The smoothness and aromatic richness of a Pessac-Léognan white wine

The producer

Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the beautiful Domaine de Chevalier is at the top of the list of the finest Bordeaux Crus Classés. Like a secret garden, this iconic vineyard located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, to the south of Bordeaux, is surrounded by a green haven.

The vineyard

Domaine de Chevalier watches over a rare vineyard which comprises 5 hectares of vines, dedicated to the production of white wine. A true patchwork of terroirs, the Domaine de Chevalier vineyard is composed of black sand and fine white gravel soil and rests on a perfectly drained clay-gravel subsoil.

The vintage

The particularly dry weather conditions in spring favoured an even flowering period, recorded at the end of May/beginning of June, which suggested a promising harvest. The lack of rain during the summer months led to water stress, fortunately offset by stormy spells in August which boosted the grape ripening. The veraison was even and the grapes harvested were of very high quality. While the Sauvignon Blancs were appealing due to their freshness, power and aromatic range, the Semillon grapes showcased an optimal concentration combined with a beautiful purity.

The vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo successive selections based on their ripeness level. Fermentation in barrels as well as ageing for 18 months (35% new barrels), with regular stirring of the lees.

The blend

The Domaine de Chevalier 2015 dry white wine comprises a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (70%) and Semillon (30%).

The tasting

Colour

Crystal clear and bright, the colour is golden yellow with subtle green highlights.

Nose

Intense and refined, this beautifully fresh wine exudes delicious fruity (vine peach) and floral (acacia flower, honeysuckle) fragrances which harmoniously blend with tasty mineral and smoky notes.

Palate

Full and bright, this wine is seductive due to its vivacity, its creamy feel and its tension leading to a persistent finish.
