Description
A red Pomerol wine of wonderful elegance and balance
The estate
Situated between the finest crus of its appellation, Château Vray Croix de Gay is one of the finest examples of Pomerol, on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region. A former winemaker at Pétrus, Jean-Claude Berrouet joined the Château's technical teams in 2013 as consultant oenologist.
The vineyard
Château Vray Croix de Gay is a Pomerol wine made from a vineyard of 3.67 hectares, divided into 9 plots subdivided into micro-plots. The vines are an average of 23 years old and are planted on clay gravel in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2018.
The vintage
A rather hot and dry vintage overall, compared with the ten-year average. The Merlot grapes were picked between 5 and 6 September. The Cabernet Franc was picked on 22 September.
Winemaking and ageing
Following a 20-day vatting period, the wine is aged in barrels (30% new barrels, the rest in one-wine barrels and amphorae) for 18 months.
Blend
Château Vray Croix de Gay 2022 is a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
