Description
The fineness and freshness of a Pomerol wine
The estate
Located within the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux, the origins of Château Rouget date back to several centuries ago. Although Château Rouget has been mentioned in cadastral archives from 1700, its terroir was recognised for its quality at the end of the Roman Empire, making it one of the oldest estates in the appellation. The passion and rigour of the various owners in running this vineyard allowed Château Rouget to be recognised at the end of the 19th century as one of the best vintages of the appellation. Château Rouget is the only Bordeaux estate belonging to a family from Burgundy following its acquisition by the Labruyère family in 1992.
The vineyard
Château Rouget watches over a 17-hectare vineyard. Aged by around 40 years, the vines are planted on a terroir made up of gravel and clay surfaces. The basement is made up of gravelly hilltops and clayey-gravelly terraces.
The vintage
A wet winter preceded an extremely early spring which resulted in vegetative growth being ahead of time throughout the year and up to the harvests from 15 to 30 September. This vintage ranks among the earliest in the history of the estate.
Blend
The 2020 Château Rouget is made from a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
Tasting
Smooth and fruity, this 2020 Château Rouget seduces with its freshness, tension, beautiful concentration and significant ageing potential.
