Château Olivier 2016

A Pessac-Léognan white wine with great complexity

Château Olivier Blanc is a Grand Cru classé produced in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Originating from a vineyard of 8 hectares, it benefits from vines aged 30 years on average, planted in soils of Gunzian gravel and clay-limestone subsoils. The ageing of the wine is carried out in barrels, with a proportion of one third new barrels, for 12 months on lees. The 2016 blend contains 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 23% Sémillon and 2% Muscadelle.

The 2016 vintage offered exceptional climatic conditions. The winter was marked by mild temperatures and strong rainfall, before a very wet spring. Yet a small window in late May and early June allowed for a superb flowering of the vines. The summer was then hot and dry until September 13^th, when the rain limited the water stress and restarted grape ripening. The white grape harvest took place between the 8^th and 19^th of September.

At tasting, the Château Olivier blanc 2016 shows great complexity. The wine is rich and very aromatic, thanks to Semillon (which is rich and aromatic) and Sauvignon Blanc, which provides a meaty quality to the wine, along with expressive aromas.
