Description
The richesse of a structured and precise red Grand Cru Classé from Graves
The 2018 is already showing signs of a magnificent vintage at the Graves Grand Cru Classé Château Olivier, located in the south-east of Bordeaux.
After a cold winter and a rainy spring, mildew pressure posed quite a threat to the vineyard. The work and constant attention of the technical teams made it possible to fight against the fungus, by relying on a very thorough parcel tracking.
At Château Olivier, the grape harvest began on September 14 and ended on October 10 with the Cabernet. The fruit harvested was small, with exceptional aromatic richness, beautiful structure and very present tannins.
Blending Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (46%) and Petit Verdot (6%), the Château Olivier 2018 is a wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, already displaying the class of a great Graves wine.
At the tasting, the Château Olivier 2018 presents a beautiful, deep purple colour. The nose is very expressive, revealing vibrant black fruits, blackberries and kirsch cherries, with hints of cinnamon and cloves.
From the onset, the palate is packed with a deliciously dense material, releasing great energy and vivacity, and displaying bright flavours of fruit. The palate is structured and fine, guided by firm tannins with a silky texture. The finish is quite persistent, offering delicious fruity notes, enhanced by refreshing smoky and peppery notes. A great vintage for Château Olivier, with a beautiful ageing potential.
