Description

Fresh and complex, a fine red wine from Pomerol

The estate

Founded in 1920 by a passionate couple, Château Le Bon Pasteur was taken over by the famous oenologist Michel Rolland and his brother in 1978, who thus took over from their father at the helm of this Bordeaux grand cru.

The vineyard

Château Le Bon Pasteur 2021 is a Pomerol wine made from a 6.5-hectare vineyard which spreads over 23 parcels in the heart of the appellation. The vineyard has earned a High Environmental Value level 3 certification.

The vintage

The mild, wet winter preceded frosts at the beginning of April, which had an uneven impact on the vineyard. Despite heavy rainfall in May and June, flowering benefited from an optimal weather window. Thereafter, the milder weather conditions allowed for a homogeneous and gradual veraison period. Although the summer was marked by unstable weather conditions until mid-August, the strong sunshine and dry conditions until the harvest were beneficial. The coolest vintage of the last three years, 2021 is seductive due to its vivacity, its aromatic richness and its silky fruity expression.

Vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are double-sorted before and after destemming and an intra-plot selection is carried out. The grapes are cold-macerated for 5 to 7 days before being vinified entirely in new French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels (70% new).

The blend

Merlot (80%)

Cabernet Franc (20%)
