Description
The density and woody framework of a Pauillac red wine
The estate
With its vineyards located on the finest terroirs of Pauillac, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the finest estates in the prestigious appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Founded in 1675, this 5th Cru Classé stands out for its wines that offer a precise definition of the Pauillac terroir, for their structure and their incredible capacity for ageing.
The vineyard
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a Pauillac wine whose vineyard was gradually planted and blended by lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century. The terroir is located on siliceous-gravelly Garonne soils.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage was marked by extreme weather conditions. The cool, damp spring was conducive to the development of high pressure on the vineyard’s health, as well as uneven flowering. A mild summer preceded the months of September and October, when waves of heat and humidity once again advanced the spread of disease in the vineyards. These climatic conditions prompted growers to adapt, focusing their efforts on grape quality and another meticulous sorting in the vineyard and cellar.
Winemaking and ageing
Hand-picked in crates. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (62%)
