Description
Grand-Puy Ducasse, a full-bodied and classy Pauillac cru classé
The producer
With a vineyard located on the greatest Pauillac terroirs, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, located on the left bank of Bordeaux, is one of the prestigious appellation’s most beautiful properties. Founded in 1675, this 5th Cru Classé stands out by offering a precise definition of the Pauillac terroir due to its structure and incredible ageing potential.
The vineyard
Patiently built up and assembled by the lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century, the Château Grand-Puy Ducasse vineyard covers 40 hectares which is split into three large plots. The vines are 25 years old on average and lie on sandy Garonne gravel terroirs.
The vintage
The winemaker will keep a fond memory of the unprecedented 2016 vintage, where both a very rainy spring and an endless summer followed one another. The fantastic harvest conditions during the Indian summer of 2016 reminds us of the harvests which produced the greatest vintages.
The blend
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 2016 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), completed by Merlot (35%).
The tasting
Colour
Dark, inky colour with purple highlights.
Nose
Dense and concentrated, the nose exhales fragrances of delicious black fruits. The aromatic freshness is supported by a beautiful tension.
Palate
A lively attack precedes a dense palate, combining enveloping aromas of crunchy fruit with mature and delicate tannins. Persistant, the finish is creamy, refreshing and balanced.
