The estate

With its vineyard situated on the greatest terroirs of Pauillac, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the most beautiful properties in the prestigious appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1675, this 5th Classified Growth is distinguished by its wines, which offer a very precise expression of the Pauillac terroir through its structure and incredible ageing potential.

The vineyard

Patiently assembled by lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse today reigns over a 40-hectare vineyard, spread over three large plots. The vines, which are 25 years old on average, are planted on soils of Garonne gravel and silica gravel.

The wine

To mark the 200th harvest, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is unveiling a new label. A thorough study of the archives enabled the estate to discover the date of its creation, in 1675, a date which is now poised at the top of the label. The estate’s coat of arms, now with finer and more elegant lines, is accompanied by the historical motto "Regis Semper Amici" (Friends forever) immortalising the bond between two families, since the marriage of Pamela Ducasse and Édouard Duroy de Suduiraut in 1822. This innovative graphic design is part of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse’s visionary project called "Renaissance". The illustrious Pauillac estate steeped in 350 years worth of history is currently undergoing major restructuring work in its vat room and cellar.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage opened with a very rainy and mild winter which immediately laid the foundations for an early vintage. The talent of the teams at the château was therefore put to the test of a very rapidly evolving vine cycle. Thanks to its great know-how, the estate has succeeded in enhancing, with its work, the solar, spicy, unctuous but also fresh and tight character of grapes, offering a wine bearing the signature style of the greatest vintages.

Winemaking and ageing

Once harvests are carried out by hand and the grapes rigorously selected by manual then optical sorting, vinification is carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Some of the batches carry out their malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new.

Blend

The 2020 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), complemented by Merlot (45%).
