Description
A Pernand-Vergelesses with citrusy aromas
The estate
It was in 1750 that the great House in Burgundy, Chanson Père & Fils, was created, during the advent of the first trading houses dedicated to the purchase, ageing and resale of wines. The Chanson estate is located at the heart of Beaune in a superb stronghold nicknamed "La Tour des filles" (the girls’ tower), erected at the beginning of the 16th century as a guard tower with walls that are 8 metres thick. Directed by the talented Vincent Avenel and Jean-Pierre Confuron, the Chanson Père & Fils estate is a specialist Premier Cru in Beaune.
The vineyard
The Pernand-Vergelesses Les Caradeux 1er Cru 2017 by the Chanson estate is made from a 1.9-hectare plot. It is located halfway up the hillside near the vines of Corton-Charlemagne, with north-facing exposure. The soils are clay-limestone and pebbly.
The vintage
The year 2017 was characterised by a cool and classic winter, followed by a hot spring. April and May were somewhat stormy due to the delayed rain and light frosts. The hot, sometimes scorching summer nevertheless allowed the berries to reach a perfect state of ripeness, with harvests which began on 6 September.
Winemaking and ageing
Once harvested, the berries are pressed to give wines which are then vinified in French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months.
Grape variety
The Pernand-Vergelesses Les Caradeux 1er Cru 2017 cuvée by the Chanson estate is a single-variety cuvée made from Chardonnay.
Tasting
Colour
The Pernand-Vergelesses Les Caradeux 1er Cru 2017 by the Chanson estate is a beautiful light gold colour.
Nose
On the nose, aromas of citrus and white-fleshed fruits are freshly expressed. Mineral notes typical to the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation sustain the bouquet.
Palate
The attack is very direct and resolutely iodised. The complex palate is endowed with a pointed texture. The finish is long and precise.
Food and wine pairings
This Pernand-Vergelesses by Chanson goes perfectly with seafood or fish. Cheeses such as Époisses and Cîteaux can also accompany this white wine from Burgundy, as can an aged Comté.
