Description
The richness and subtlety of an exceptional Meursault wine
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy. The estate is located in a watchtower-like bastion, built in the early 16th century, with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now used to house the wines during the ageing period. Well-known by lovers of fine Burgundian wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers secret vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the finest wine-producing villages in the Côte de Beaune.
The vineyard
Domaine Chanson reigns over 45 hectares of vines located exclusively in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune. Comprising 25 hectares in Beaune, Domaine Chanson is regarded as the specialist of the best Premiers Crus of Beaune. Amongst the most famous climats of Meursault, the Meursault Premier Cru Perrières is located to the south of the village of Meursault with vines situated mid-slope and facing east. This exceptional Meursault stands out due to its complexity and richness. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of stone giving the Chardonnay a unique complexity.
The vintage
A great vintage for Burgundy, 2017 was marked by a classic winter followed by a hot spring and summer with heatwaves. The harvest began on September 6th with grapes that boasted an utterly healthy condition.
Vinification and ageing
Once the grapes have been picked by hand, they are gently pressed. The wine is then vinified in oak barrels in the magnificent 15th century cellars of the Chanson estate. The wines are aged for 12 to 14 months with a moderate proportion of new oak.
