Description
A balanced and powerful Beaune Premier Cru red wine
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy. The estate is located in a watchtower-like bastion, built in the early 16th century, with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now used to house the wines during the ageing period. Well-known by lovers of fine Burgundian wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers secret vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the finest wine-producing villages in the Côte de Beaune.
Domaine Chanson covers 45 hectares of vines in the most beautiful appellations of the Côte de Beaune (Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Corton...), exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus.
The vineyard
The 2017 Beaune 1er cru "Teurons" by the Chanson estate stems from a 4-hectare vineyard. The name of this Beaune wine refers to the rapid ripening of the berries and their aromatic concentration due to their location on fine, clay-limestone and stony soils. The vines are said to "teurone", a reference to its unique vineyard names Teurons.
The vintage
A mild winter gave way to a rainy spring with shifts in temperature, leading to millerandage. A scorching summer was punctuated by thunderstorms that were beneficial for the vines.
The vinification and ageing
Fermentation in whole bunches. The wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in the 16th century Bastion with a moderate proportion of new barrels.
The blend
Pinot Noir, 50% of which is a result of a massal selection of plants dating from 1951 and 50% of clones dating from 1986.
