Description
The structure and aromatic expression of a Beaune Premier Cru red wine
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous wine houses in Burgundy. The estate is located in a bastion erected at the beginning of the 16th century as a watchtower with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now dedicated to ageing the house wines. Well known to lovers of great Burgundy wines, Domaine Chanson offers exclusive cuvées that brilliantly reveal the expression of the greatest wine-producing villages of the Côte de Beaune.
Domaine Chanson stretches across 45 hectares of vineyards in the most beautiful appellations of the Côte de Beaune (Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Corton...), exclusively in the Premier and Grand Crus of Burgundy.
The vineyard
The Beaune Premier Cru " Grèves" Domaine 2017 from Chanson stems from a vineyard in the heart of the within the most extensive Cru on Beaune’s central hill.
This Beaune wine owes its uniqueness to its hillside terroir, which benefits from the most sunshine, guaranteeing rapid ripening of the grapes. The name of this wine refers to its soil composed of "graves" (gravel), i.e. sand and silt in the subsoil.
The vintage
The beginning of the year had a mild spring, offset by a cold snap at the beginning of April but followed by a wet May, slowing down growth development. The summer was scorching hot with thunderstorms at the end of August. The grapes harvested from 6 September onwards were particularly healthy.
Winemaking and ageing
Fermentation of whole bunches. Ageing for a period of 14-18 months in the depths of the 16th century Bastion with a moderate proportion of new casks.
Blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
