Description
A generous and complex Beaune red wine
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy. The estate is located in a watchtower-like bastion, built in the early 16th century, with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now used to house the wines during the ageing period. Well-known by lovers of fine Burgundian wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers secret vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the finest wine-producing villages in the Côte de Beaune.
Domaine Chanson covers 45 hectares of vines in the most beautiful appellations of the Côte de Beaune (Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Corton...), exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus.
The vineyard
The Chanson estate owns a 4.3-hectare plot on the iconic Clos des Mouches vineyard and grows 2.5 hectares of Pinot Noir. Situated on clay-limestone marl soils, the Clos des Mouches is one of the fine Beaune wines. Close to the Pommard Premiers Crus, the Clos des Mouches benefits from a superb sun exposure and is south-east facing, resulting in wines with a radiant and generous identity.
The vintage
A classic winter preceded a spring whose high temperatures were offset by a cold period at the beginning of April, which slowed down the development of the vines. The summer was particularly hot and was marked by thunderstorms that salvaged the vineyard. The vineyard was in perfect health and the weather conditions during the harvest, which began on September 6th, were equally perfect.
The vinification and ageing
Fermentation in whole bunches for two weeks. The wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in the 16th century Bastion, with a moderate proportion of new barrels.
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
