Description
The intensity of a harmonious and complex champagne
The estate
The history of the Taittinger Champagne House began in the early 20th century. Ran by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his two children, Clovis and Vitalie, the Taittinger House has managed to preserve its family spirit by producing champagnes that are resolutely Chardonnay in style. Since January 1st 2020, Vitalie Taittinger is the President of the Taittinger Champagne House.
The vineyard
The vineyards owned by the Taittinger Champagne House spread across 288 hectares of vines and include 37 different crus. This makes Taittinger the third largest vineyard in Champagne. The entire vineyard bears a High Environmental Value certificate.
The wine
An exclusive and original creation, the "Folies de la Marquetterie" champagne is the first Estate Champagne in the history of the Taittinger brand. This champagne is made exclusively from grapes from the Folies vineyard. This vineyard overlooks the Château de la Marquetterie. A true gem in the Champagne region, Château de la Marquetterie is famous for having been the residence of the writer Jacques Cazotte as well as a place for meetings and countryside parties during the Age of Enlightenment. In this history-filled place, the Benedictine Monk, Brother Oudart, discovered some of the secrets of champagne’s fermentation process. Being the very core of the Champagne region’s history, Château de la Marquetterie is now the Taittinger family’s home.
Vinification and ageing
Taittinger's "Folies de la Marquetterie" champagne is vinified in a plot-by-plot manner, with green harvesting carried out beforehand. Only the juice from the first press is selected in the making of this champagne. The juices are vinified in small volumes and some are vinified in oak tuns. The Folies de la Marquetterie champagne by Taittinger expresses its harmony and fullness after 5 years of slow bottle-ageing.
The blend
Folies de la Marquetterie by Taittinger champagne is blended from Chardonnay (50%) and Pinot Noir (50%), exclusively from the Folies vineyard.
Folies de la Marquetterie by Taittinger: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Colour
The Folies de la Marquetterie champagne showcases its alluring colour, deep yellow with golden hues, which highlight the delicacy of the effervescence.
Nose
Intense, the aromatic bouquet charms the nose with its pleasant notes of yellow fruit and ripe summer fruit with scents of apricot and peach. When aerated, this champagne reveals subtle notes of brioche and vanilla.
Palate
From the outset, the palate reveals a full body that caresses the palate in a supple manner. Fruity notes reminiscent of the olfactory sensations perceived on the nose emerge on the palate, while the finish, marked by delicate woody notes, lingers expressively. A harmonious champagne with a great richness and complexity.
Food and wine pairing
A terroir champagne combining structure and power, the Folies de la Marquetterie champagne goes well with gourmet character-filled dishes such as roasted meats or fish served with a sauce.
