Description
The finesse and complexity of a vintage champagne in an innovative new case
The estate
The Perrier-Jouët Champagne House was founded in 1811 by Pierre Perrier and his wife Adèle Jouët. Produced from exceptional Champagne terroirs (Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne, Avize and Cramant), the house's cuvées are renowned for their singular style combining aromatic richness, refinement and subtlety. From 1861 onwards, Perrier-Jouët became the official champagne of Queen Victoria, then that of the French Imperial Court.
Owned by the Champagne company GH Mumm since 1959, Perrier-Jouët's uniqueness lies in the iconic bottle of the prestige cuvée "Belle Epoque" designed in 1969 by Emile Gallé.
The wine
Belle Époque, the emblematic champagne of the Perrier-Jouët Champagne House, is the first cuvée to be decorated with the white Japanese anemone, a motif created for the house in 1902 by Émile Gallé, the master of Art Nouveau.
A perfect expression of the house's style and the result of a most harmonious blend, Perrier-Jouët's Belle Époque 2014 is made from emblematic Champagne crus (Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Vertus and Mailly). Aged for a minimum of 6 years in the house cellars, this Brut champagne is dosed at 8 g/litre.
An innovative case
Combining ecology and eco-design, Cocoon is a new minimalist case for Perrier-Jouët's vintage vintages.
Made from natural materials, such as paper pulp from sustainably managed forests (FSC label) and vine shoots from the estate's vineyards, Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque Cocoon is a light box (49 grams) that protects the bottle from light.
The vintage
A particularly mild and rainy winter preceded a dry and sunny spring. The summer was marked by contrasting temperatures and heavy rainfall. The milder conditions from September onwards were ideal for ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes, which gave rise to a cuvée that harmoniously combines complexity and fruitiness.
Blend
Chardonnay (50%)
Pinot Noir (45%)
Pinot Meunier (5%).
