Description

A gourmet and light rosé champagne

The estate

The Moët & Chandon Champagne House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made it a reference among the European courts. A few years later, his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, developed the house's international reputation.

Jean-Rémy Moët created the house's iconic champagne, Moët Imperial, in honour of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate on several occasions and who is said to have invented the act of sabering bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne with a sword by way of celebrating a victory with his troops.

Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the house produces, from a rigorous selection of Champagne terroirs, unique vintages which are renowned well beyond the borders for their quality and their charming identity.

The wine

Moët & Chandon's Grand Vintage Champagne is only made during the finest years. This Champagne wine is the symbol of the spirit that prevails during the creation of each Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage. It is the fruit of a personal interpretation of the year's makings and is the result of a rigorous selection of the year's wines, all of which lead to champagnes that stand out due to their singularity, their complexity and their ageing potential. This Grand Vintage Rosé 2009 by Moët & Chandon conveys a unique interpretation of a fine vintage in the Champagne region.

Vinification and ageing

This champagne has been aged for a minimum of 7 years in the cellars of the Moët & Chandon House. The ageing period after disgorging is 6 months and the dosage is 5 g/litre.

The blend

Grand Vintage Rosé 2009 by Moët & Chandon is a blend of Pinot Noir (59% of which 19% is red wine), Chardonnay (30%) and Pinot Meunier (11%).

The tasting

Colour

The colour is a deep pink with topaz tints and bright coral highlights. The effervescence is fine and regular.

Nose

The nose combines fruity fragrances (red fruits, wild berries, wild strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants), floral and vegetal fragrances (rhubarb, violets, poppy-flavoured sweets) with delicious notes of vanilla and pepper.

Palate

The attack exudes gourmet notes of confectionery (marshmallow, berlingot sweets, candy floss, candy apple). Throughout the tasting experience, this champagne reveals aromas of nutmeg, dried fig and black cherry enhanced by the light elegance of the Pinot Noir and an enfolding texture. The finish is persistent and marked by subtle spicy notes.
