Description
The precision and richness of a unique champagne signed Louis Roederer
The property
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today led by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage, the Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines around the world thanks to cuvées crafted like a work of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, the Louis Roederer House draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed exclusively of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the Louis Roederer House's vineyard is divided into 410 plots that reflect the full diversity of the Champagne soils.
The wine
In order to take the quality of the house's multi-vintage blends even further and to bring more transparency to the blends, Louis Roederer has embarked on a new approach with the creation of this Collection cuvée. Made from grapes from a third each of the "La Rivière", "La Montagne" and "La Côte" vineyards, Collection consists of a base vintage, reserve wines aged in wood and wine from the "perpetual reserve" which follows the principles of the solera and which was started in 2012. Each edition of Collection is thus unique and yet always representative of the Roederer identity and know-how. This Collection champagne is the worthy successor of Louis Roederer's Brut Premier.
Base vintage and reserves
241 for 241st blend. Louis Roederer's Collection 241 is made from the 2016 vintage to which 17% of reserve wines aged in wood (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and 34% of perpetual reserve (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) have been added.
The year 2016 is characterized by a cool and wet spring followed by a hot and dry summer punctuated by a heatwave at the end of August. The harvest is carried out under dry and sunny conditions, ideal for achieving optimal maturity.
Vinification and aging
30% of the blend underwent malolactic fermentation. Collection 241 was aged for more than 3 years in the cellar. Its dosage is 8 g/liter.
Blend
40% chardonnay, 42% pinot noir and 18% pinot meunier.
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Collection 241 by Louis Roederer
Tasting
Nose
The nose exudes intense fragrances of yellow fruits with delicious toasted, saline and iodized notes.
Palate
Round and structured, the palate reveals a tasty limestone freshness, mineral and saline. The palate harmoniously combines finesse with great precision. If the pinot noir blends intense fruity notes with a silky texture, the chardonnay seduces with its precision and delicate salinity.
