Description

A powerful and elegant vintage champagne

The estate

Since its creation in 1808, the Drappier Champagne House, whose vaulted cellars date back to the 12th century, has a history intimately linked to pinot noir, its grape of choice. It was in the 1930s that against the general opinion of the community, this grape variety was replanted on the estate. History proved the House right, whose Drappier cuvée 100% pinot noir, for the anecdote, was General de Gaulle's preference for family meals.

Today, the children of André and Micheline Drappier represent the eighth generation to cultivate this exceptional terroir according to organic and natural principles, including forgotten grape varieties: arbane, petit meslier and blanc vrai.

The vineyard

The vineyard of the Champagne Drappier House extends over 75 hectares of vines. Located south of Reims, the Drappier house's vineyard is shared between the Côte des Bar and its old vines, the Montagne de Reims and its intense pinot noir, as well as the Côte des Blancs and its delicate chardonnay. This vineyard owes its uniqueness to its limestone-rich terroir combined with maximum sunshine. Some of the Drappier House's plots are also worked with the family's draft horse.

The cuvée

The Grande Sendrée Rosé 2018 from Drappier is a rosé champagne from a historic plot of the House.

The vintage

The 2018 vintage was marked by contrasting climatic conditions: a cool and rainy spring followed by a hot and sunny summer. This alternation favored optimal ripening of the grapes, yielding generous clusters, rich in aromas and sugars.

Vinification and aging

Vinification via the "bleeding" method. 3-day cuvaison. Pre-fermentation cold maceration of the previously destemmed harvest. Low pressure pressing before exclusive selection of the first press. Gravity vinification. Natural settling. Malolactic fermentation. Aging 90% in vat then bottle aging for 6 years. The dosage is 4g/L.
