Description
The balance and expression of a Second Wine from Pauillac
The estate
Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was built in the 16th century. The wine estate was greatly influenced during its ownership by Raymond Dupin from 1930 to 1978. Dupin ceded the property to the Borie family, who have carried out numerous renovations since then. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is today one of the most representative estates of the Pauillac appellation.
The vineyard
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2021 is a Pauillac wine that stems from a 90-hectares vineyard, of which 60 are planted in a single block. The vines are 38 years old on average and are planted on deep gravelly outcroppings.
The wine
Lacoste-Borie is the second wine of the estate.
Comprising a volume of 12 bottles (9 litres), this "Caisse Variation Château Lacoste-Borie 2021" contains 1 Double-Magnum, 2 Magnums and 4 bottles. The variation in bottle sizes is an invitation to discover, through these three different sizes, the evolution of Pauillac wine over the years.
The vintage
A mild, wet winter preceded a dry spring, alternating between a warm month of March and a particularly cold month of April. Thanks to its location near the estuary, the vineyard was protected from frost. The heavy rainfall in June gave way to a cool, wet month of July and a dry but cool August. These conditions enabled the vineyard to develop gradually and evenly until the harvest.
The blend
Lacoste-Borie 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Merlot (36%) and Cabernet Franc (8%).
