Description
An iconic Italian wine with an elegant style and excellent aromatic harmony
The estate
The story of Bertani, one of the most important producers in Veneto, began in 1857, when brothers, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, decided to move to Quinto Di Valpantena, which is located to the north of Verona in Italy. Gaetano Bertani was a student of the famous professor, Guyot, and applied the techniques learned in Bordeaux to Italian wines, in the spirit of this period of innovation which marked the advances of modern viticulture in the vineyard and at the cellar. In 1958, Bertani became one of the most famous Italian names through marketing the iconic wine, Amarone.
The vineyard
Bertani is located at the head of a 200-hectare vineyard in one of the most prestigious areas in Valpolicella, near Verona, with wines that demonstrate all of the typicality of their terroir, notably the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, northern Italy’s star wine. Amarone Della Valpolicella Valpantena 2018 is produced from vineyards in Valpantena, where the soi lis made out of limestone and marl on the eastern slope and limestone and clay on the western slope.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvests, the berries are taken to the cellar to begin the winemaking process. During fermentation, the grapes rest for a long time with their skins to develop intense, fruity notes. The wine the nages in Slovenian oak barrels for 24 months.
Blend
Corvina Veronese (80%) and Rondinella (20%).
Tasting
Amarone Della Valpolicella Valpantena 2018 is a modern wine, balanced and elegant at the same time. Notes of fruit, such as cherry and blackberry, wonderfully harmonise with nuances of spice which are typical to the wines of the region. The sweetness of this wine goes perfectly with its velvety and offers a delightfully creamy palate.
Food and wine pairings
Thanks to its full-bodied character, Amarone Della Valpolicella Vanpantena 2018 is the perfect accompaniment for rich dishes, such as aged cheeses or very flavourful meats.
