Description
A fruity and fine South African red wine
The estate
Beaumont Family Wines is a family-run estate located in Bot River in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. The origins of the estate hark back to 1974, when Jayne and Raoul Beaumont began planting vines on the grounds of a farmhouse built in the 1700s. Since 2015, Sebastian Beaumont has been the second generation to manage this estate which is known for its elegant and aromatic South African wines.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Western Cape wines, Beaumont Family Wines' Jackal's River Pinotage is made from 80% old vines that are 47 years of age of average, lending a singular structure, but also from young vines with a vibrant fruity expression.
This historic vintage of the estate, this Pinotage wine exhibits a seductive aromatic framework and an authentic expression of the cool micro-climate of the Bot River region.
The vintage
Following years of dry weather conditions, 2019 started off with a wet winter. Subsequently, mild conditions throughout the growing season ensured an optimal ripening and a perfect sanitary conditions.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested between mid-February and mid-March, the grapes are vinified in concrete vats, with 3 to 4 punchings of the cap per day. The wine is initially aged for 18 months in barrels, followed by a further 8 months in vats.
