Recognised in 1996, the IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) Vigneti delle Dolomiti, also known as Weinberg Dolomiten from its German name, is located in Trentino-Alto Adige, in northern Italy.
While the majority of the wines produced under the Vigneti delle Dolomiti appellation come from Trentino-Alto Adige, the appellation covers the provinces of Trento and Bolzano as well as Belluno, in northern Veneto.
The Vigneti delle Dolomiti appellation produces different styles of wine, from varietal to blend, from red to white, including rosé, sparkling and sweet wines.
The region grows international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but also indigenous varieties, typical of Trentino Alto Adige, such as Müller-Thurgau, Lagrein and the rare Teroldego, "Prince of Trentino."
This northern Italian region at the foot of the Alps is noted for its German-style white wines, which are lively and fresh, with notes of citrus, especially grapefruit. The red wines are characterised by great finesse, a dense but velvety texture, with aromas of black fruit, blackberry and cherry, evolving over time into complex organic aromas, notes of tar, undergrowth and truffle.
