The estate

Owners of the Tasca Conti d'Almerita Estate - Fondazione Whitaker for eight generations, the Tasca d'Almerita family has enjoyed a loyal friendship with the Whitaker family for over a century.

Founded in 1975 with the aim of promoting Sicilian culture, in 2007 the Whitaker Foundation entrusted the Tasca Conti d'Almerita estate with a project to restore an exceptional terroir: the vineyard on the island of Mozia.

With a rich history dating back to the Phoenicians, this open-air archaeological site produces some of Sicily's finest wines.

The vineyard

A benchmark among Sicilian wines, this Mozia Grillo 2022 from Tasca Conti d'Almerita - Fondazione Whitaker is made from a vineyard ravaged by phylloxera and then replanted in the early 19th century. Of marine origin, the vineyard's 13 hectares of sandy soil contain a high proportion of limestone. Special pruning is carried out to protect the vines from the wind.

The vintage

This wine from the Sicilia appellation comes from a vintage characterised by a cool, dry winter and spring. The summer was hot and dry, but this was well tolerated thanks to the bushy shape of the vines. The harvest took place from 18 to 30 August.

Winemaking and ageing

Fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C for 15 days. This Italian wine was then aged in steel vats without yeast for 5 months.
