Description
An elegant and smooth Tuscan red wine
The estate
The Rocca di Frassinello estate is the fruit of the partnership between the highly reputed Chianti Classico estate, Castellare di Castellina, and Domaines Barons de Rothschild's Château Lafite. Established in 2007 and designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, Rocca di Frassinello produces fine Maremma Toscana wines.
The wine
Rocca di Frassinello's 2018 San Germano is a Maremma Toscana wine that stems from vineyards in the commune of Gavorrano.
The vintage
A rainy winter preceded a cool spring that delayed budburst. The mild conditions during summer helped to make up for the delay and enabled the grapes to ripen beautifully. The temperature variations between day and night favoured an optimal concentration of the grapes while preserving a pleasant acidity. Harvesting was carried out in the first half of September, giving rise to a structured and particularly fresh vintage.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in vats. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. Aged for 24 months in barrels (70% of which are new) followed by 11 months of bottle ageing.
