Spain is one of the largest wine-producing regions in the world, and one of the oldest too. However, it sometimes suffers from an image of volume wines, not necessarily of the highest quality. But there are wines that oppose these prejudices. This wine-producing country is in fact full of prizes and projects set in motion with the sole aim of making great wines! And the quality is right up there with the greatest wines in the world.
Located in one of Spain's most famous appellations, La Rioja (one of only two appellations in Spain to have DOCa status, along with Priorat, at the highest level), Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi was set up by winemakers from the area around Logroño in 1985. The project took on a new dimension when the Lacalle and Laorden families took it over, led by the visionary Juan Carlos López de Lacalle. The bodega soon took on a whole new dimension, receiving a 100/100 Parker's rating on several occasions.
Conscious of current environmental issues, the bodega has opted for organic and biodynamic viticulture, free from synthetic products and pesticides, in order to respect its terroir, its biological diversity and the history of the area as much as possible. Artadi is unique in that it grows old Tempranillo grapes, the signature variety of Rioja, which produce low yields and high quality berries.
Alongside great names such as Alvaro Palacios, Dominio de Pingus and Vega Sicilia, Artadi is writing the history of Spain's grand crus.
