Description

A Second Wine from Saint-Emilion with a seductive richness and precision

The estate

Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, Château Figeac is the embodiment of the excellence of the great wines of Bordeaux in the world. Château Figeac has been owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years.

The vineyard

An illustrious reference among the fine Saint-Emilion wines, Château Figeac enjoys an exceptional location, to the west of the appellation, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The property's vineyard covers 40 hectares of vines planted on three different gravelly slopes. Respect for biodiversity, flora and fauna are at the heart of the estate's concerns.

The wine

Produced with the same high standards as the Grand Vin, Petit-Figeac is the Second Wine of Château Figeac. Under the impetus of Thierry Manoncourt, Château Figeac has been producing a Second Wine since 1945, which, from the 2012 vintage, takes the name of a historic plot of land "Petit-Figeac" located in the heart of the estate.

2021 is the first vintage to be vinified in the estate's new cellar.

The vintage

A mild and rainy winter favoured an early budding of the vines. Episodes of frost in early spring preceded heavy rainfall in May and June, slowing down the development of the vine. More clement weather was recorded from the beginning of July. At the end of the summer and in September and October, the sunny and particularly dry conditions are ideal and helped to refine the ripening process.

Vinification and ageing

The wine is matured in barrels (30% new, 70% second-fill wines).

The blend

Petit Figeac 2021 comprises a blend of Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%).
