Description
One of Australia's most famous wines, Penfolds' Grange is an exceptional cuvee, which has even been officially registered as a heritage icon of South Australia. Launched with the 1951 experimental vintage, this wine expresses the synergy between the Shiraz grape variety and the soil and climate of South Australia. The result is a unique wine which finds its place amongst the best wines in the world. The estate uses the philosophy of "blending", that is using grapes from multiple vineyards and multiple-districts (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley & Magill Estate). The 2009 vintage has a robe of deep magenta and is distinguished by a powerful and complex nose. The aromas of red and black fruits, licorice, anise and even red meats and black pepper are the first to reveal themselves. After aeration, fragrances of panforte, mascarpone cheese, candied figs and vanilla develop. On the palate, Grange 2009 is captivating and voluptuous. The weight is balanced. The wine is generous but underpinned by well-proportioned acidity and well-integrated tannins. The final is long, leaving flavors of mocha, cocoa and plum on the palate.
