Description
A fresh and complex iconic Australian red wine in an exceptional edition
The estate
The prestigious magazine, Wine Enthusiast, honoured Penfolds as their 2013 New World Winery of the Year, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an icon of fine Australian wines at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Mary Penfold’s unparalleled determination. Indeed, the co-founder of the Penfolds estate put her heart and soul into making exceptional wines. Her lifelong work is reflected in the estate's success in establishing itself as a benchmark in Southern Australia. When Max Schubert became part of the Penfolds' story in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of fine Bordeaux wines, that fascinated him greatly, into the estate's wines. Success shortly followed when the cellar master produced his famous Grange wines, which crossed Australian borders in order to win the hearts of wine lovers all around the world.
The wine
Since its launch in 1951, Grange by Penfolds has been known throughout the world and is one of Australia's most famous wines. It official bears the 'South Australian Heritage Icon’ status.
Grange celebrates Penfolds' art of blending, by combining Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from different plots and wine regions in Southern Australia: Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, Magill Estate.
Grange 70th Anniversary by Penfolds celebrates the 70th anniversary of this iconic wine's first edition.
The vinification and ageing
Grange 70th Anniversary by Penfolds was aged for 18 months in American oak demi-muids (100% new wood).
The blend
Made from vineyards in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, this 2017 vintage is the 7th to be made exclusively from Shiraz, as were the 1951, 1952, 1963, 1999, 2000 and 2011 vintages.
