Description
The typicality and balance of a Sicilian red wine
The estate
In 2006, at the age of 22, Arianna Occhipinti created her own winery on a one-hectare vineyard in the heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria region, Sicily. Attentive to her environment and wishing to express the full richness of her terroir, Arianna Occhipinti has from the outset chosen a biodynamic approach to produce natural wines from indigenous grape varieties.
Arianna Occhipinti has become a leading figure for a new generation of Sicilian and Italian wine lovers, and now runs a 23-hectare vineyard. Regarded as a success story in the world of biodynamic viticulture, the estate's wines, produced under the IGT Terra Siciliane appellation, are elegant, balanced and authentically reflect their native terroir.
The vineyard
Frappato 2020 by Occhipinti is a Sicilian wine made from vines that are 40 years old on average and are situated at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level. The soils are mostly composed of red sand and chalk from the surrounding limestone rocks.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested in early October, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts. Maceration for 30 days. Aged for 14 months in large 25-hl Slavonian oak barrels, then one month of bottle ageing before being sold.
The blend
Frappato 2020 by Occhipinti is a 100% Frappato.
